Mangalore University has introduced a subject on Yakshagana for II degree students from this academic year. In this direction Department of Kannada, Kannnada association and Yakshakala Kendra of St. Philomena College organised a programme ‘Yaksha Patya Gayana’ on 19th September, 2014. This initiative has been taken in order to give an insight on Yakshagana which is a prominent folk art of our area.
Presiding over the function, Prof. Leo Noronha, Principal said, “ We should take care to protect and further the art forms of coastal area which will enhance our knowledge about folk arts. “
The Guest of Honour, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Campus Director and Chairperson of PG Studies said, “Inorder to live harmoniously in society it is necessary that we should develop interest in art and culture of our area.”
The Resource Person for the session were Prof. D. Ishwara Shastry, H.O.D, Dept. Of Sanskrit, Mr. Prashanth Rai, Convenor of Yakshakala Kendra, Mr. Akshay, Mrudanga Masheesh, Mr. Harish Belanta Moharu, Moderator.
