Workshop on Vermicomposting

Workshop onVermicompostingDepartment of Zoology, St. Philomena College organized a workshop on Vermitechnology in Prerana Hall, St. Philomena College, Puttur.

The Resource Person, Dr. Harish Joshi, Rtd Prof & HOD of Zoology, St. Aloysius College, Mangalore said, “Vermiculture deals with the management of waste through worms. Vermicomposting can change the waste into value and thrash into cash. People from Kerala to Goa have been using this technology as the source of income.”

He further told the students that the 80% of waste contains organic organisms. Vermicomposting is like a magic that can make the world green. He called upon the students to make vermicomposting as a hobby and not to let the waste go waste.

Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro , Campus Director and Chairman of P.G Studies and Research Centre asked the students to make the best out of the workshop, draw an action plan and implement it in the campus.

Prof. Leo Noronha, Principal of the College in his Presidential address said, “All of us should join hands and making use of all our talents we can turn the waste into a fund of wealthy. Let us all get ourselves involved in the noble project of ‘Vermicomposting’ and preserve our earth.”

The Resource Person demonstrated the several ways of vermiculture, a simple technology of saving the earth.

Mrs. Meenakshi, Head of the department of Zoology, Mr. Nagaraj, Lecturer, dept. of Botany were also present.

Ms. Raniya of l B.Sc welcomed the gathering. Ms. Sohella of ll B.Sc was the Master of the ceremony.
