Women Empowerment Cell

Women Empowerment cell of PG studies has celebrated ‘International Women’s Day ‘on 8th march 2014. The theme of the day was ‘INSPIRING CHANGE ‘. Women’s equality has made positive gains but the world is still unequal as per as the women empowerment is concerned. International Women’s Day celebrates the social, political and economic achievements of women, while focusing world attention on areas requiring further action.

Students of the PG studies inaugurated the function with a beautiful and effective skit trained by Mr. Mounesh Vishwakarma, Reporter of Varthabharathi News Paper and a well known theatre artist. In this skit students made to realize the various dimensions of problems where in today’s Women are largely encountering.

The President of the function was Very. Rev. Fr. Gerald D’Souza, the Correspondent of St. Philomena College. He wished the students and said that both men and women should celebrate this day as men and women are considered to be equal in every walk of life.

Prof Leo Noronha the Principal of our college in his address said that men and women have equal rights to work in any field. He also stressed the importance of education for women.

Rev. Dr. Antony Prakash Monteiro, Campus Director and Chairperson of PG Studies in his address said that Men and Women are not an opposite sexes but are complementary sexes. He also said that equality should exist in every aspect and there should not be any reservation in this regard.

Mrs. Anila Kumari convener of Women Empowerment Cell gave an Introductory Speech. She focused on the Importance of celebrating women’s day and also she hilightened the opportunities which women are getting and asked to utilize them.

Mrs. Divyashree introduced the resource person Prof. B.V Sooryanarayana Lecturer Govt.PU College Puttur. He said that every woman should have the confidence, which can be gained only by the true education.  This may help them to lead their life independently. Then only a day like International women’s Day will be meaningful.

Ms. Supreetha had welcomed all. Ms. Sadhana presented Vote of thanks. Ms. Jeevitha J Sequeira was the master of ceremony.
