A science model exhibition and workshop on preparation of a science model was held at Government high school Venkatnagara, Balnadu on 13th march 2015. The exhibition and the workshop was conducted by PG Department of Physics, St Philomena College in association with PG Department of Social Work; Santhwana Women’s Help line, Puttur; Grama Panchayath, Balnadu; Government High School, Venkatnagara.
Dr E Deepak D’silva, the coordinator, PG Department of Physics, St Philomena College, inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. In his inaugural address, he highlighted the importance of basic science and scientific innovations. He said, “There is a lack of enthusiasm among present day student community towards the study of basic science. This is very dangerous for the scientific progress. For the overall development of any nation, there should be new innovations emerging in scientific field. Today we are enjoying the fruits of scientific inventions of the past”, therefore he urged the students to take up basic science for their further studies and involve in research to the scientific development of the country.
The president of the function was Mrs. Sandhya Rani A R, Head Mistress of the school. She appreciated the theme of the workshop and efforts taken by the programme organizers. She also said that such kinds of programmes are very helpful for rural students.
Mrs Sunitha, Science Teacher of the school, was the guest for the function, on her remarks; she said that, students should develop scientific temperaments to be in track with the quickly changing scenario. Science helps human beings to see the things in better way. She advised the students to know the difference between myths and truths and live the life in harmony with the environment.
The program was conducted to instill the interest in basic science and scientific innovations among high school students. Mr. Jagadeesh, student of 2nd MSc Physics, St Philomena College, gave the demonstration of preparing science model. During the occasion, the students of PG Physics of the college have demonstrated their science models.
School Development and Monitoring Committee, Vice-president Mr. Prakash Chandra Alva, the coordinator of PG department of Social Work, Prof Prasanna Kumar were also present in the function. Mr. Prashanth Narayan Athri welcomed the gathering and Mr. Shivaprasad proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Shwetha and Ms. Sumana was the master of ceremony for the function.
