Leader is the one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way. Leaders are made, nobody is born leader, “said , Rev. Fr Joseph Martis, Rector, St. Joseph Inter Diocesan Seminary, Mangalore. He was addressing students of St. Philomena College during the inauguration of the Students’ Council on 21st July, 2014 at Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall.
He said there are four types of leader-Dominators, Avoiders, Accommodators and Collaborators. The three being poor leaders and the last one being the powerful leader who is bold, ethical, challenging and has a vision. He advised the Student Council members to be collaborators and elicit cooperation among the students and teachers.
He further said, “Leaders should be like the camels with a long neck to foresee and a big heart with the kindness, empathy and ability to assess the situation.
Pointing out the crime in the society he said, “Even though literacy rate has increased but not the education. Along with making the students literate emphasis should be given on educating them.”
This programme was inaugurated by the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.
The student representatives Shrinivas S. Tamboli, the President, Joiston Vinroy D’Costa, Secretary, Radhika Suresh, Joint Secretary along with the class representatives took the oath and pledged to work for the student development with close collaboration with the management.Prof. Leo Noronha, Principal of the college administered the oath taking ceremony.
Rev. Fr Gerald D’Souza , Secretary, Catholic Board of Education, Mangalore and the former Correspondent of Mai De Deus Education Institutions was felicitated recognizing his selfless service to the Mai De Deus Institutions and society at large. During his tenure there was a large scale all round growth and the institutions will remember and cherish his contributions. The citation address was read by the Student Welfare Officer, Mrs. Bharathi Rai.
The Chief Guest of the function Rev. Fr Gerald D’Souza shared his 7 years of his experience in this institution and wished everyone a bright future.
Very Rev. Fr Alfred John Pinto, Correspondent, Mai De Deus Institutions said, “ All human beings require 3 things – faith, hope and love. When you love someone help them to grow mentally, heartily, spiritually.” He said love others like you love yourself. “
Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, the Campus Director, Rev. Fr Vijay Lobo, Principal, St. Philomena P.U College, Mr. M. R Jayakumar Rai, President, Alumni Association, Mohammad Badaganur, , President P.T.A were also present.
Radhika Suresh proposed the vote of thanks. The gathering was welcomed by the President of Student Council, Shrinivas Tamboli. The Master of the Ceremony was Joyline M. Rodrigues, lll B.Sc.

Speaking about a leadership skill he said
