Rally for Awareness

DSC_0425Suraksha Consumer Forum, NSS, Rovers and Rangers, Performing Arts and Eco Club of St. Philomena College Puttur, St. Philomena P.U College Puttur in association with Puttur Municipality and Rotary Club Puttur-East jointly organised a Rally in order to create awareness on environment and consumer rights on the occasion of Independence Day in the College Premises.

Before the rally commenced a formal function was arranged in the college premises. The Guests of honour were Mrs. Rekha J Shetty, Chief Officer, Puttur Municipality, Prof. Leo Norohna, Principal, Rev. Fr Vijay Lobo, Principal of P.U College, Mr. M. R Jaya Kumar Rai, President, Alumni Association, Rtn.sacchidananda, Zontal leftinent, Rotary Club Puttur East, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Campus Director was the Special Guest. The rally was declared open by Mrs. Vani Shreedhar, President, Puttur Municipality.

Mrs. Rekha J Shetty addressing the rally said that this programme will create awareness among the people to keep our environment clean and also about the consumer rights. Further she said that we neglect the environment which results in lot of calamities and therefore she urged the need to take care of the environment. She added, “There is an urgent need to educate our consumers who often are taken for a ride”. She congratulated the college for taking this initiative.

Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Montheiro said, “Along with educating the society about the environment and consumer rights we should educate ourselves and implement this in our day to day life.”

The Master of the Ceremony Prof. Dinakara Rao, Director of Consumer Forum said that environmental protection and consumer rights are the pressing issue all over the world. In order to have a better society it is important to develop in each of these areas. With this rally moved towards the destination with students displaying the banner and placards and raising slogans. A street play was performed about the importance of protecting the environment in Darbe Circle and Private Bus Stand premises. The rally ended in Private Bus Stand premises.

Mr. Khalander Shareef, Co convenor of Rovers- Rangers was the master of ceremony at Darbe Circle. Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ms. Shashi Prabha, Co convenor of Eco Club.

Mr. Nagaraju, NSS Officer, Ms. Geetha Purnima, NSS Officer, Ms. Meenakshi, Convenor of Rovers- Rangers, Mr. Prashanth Rai, Convenor of Performing Arts, Ms. Rakshitha, Co convenor of Eco Club, Mr. Bharath Kumar, Lecturer in Political Science were present on this occasion.
