The 25th of August, 2014 was marked as an unforgettable day in the life of every fresher of P.G. Department of Social Work at St. Philomena College, Puttur. The aim of this impressive event was to provide each and every new student a clear idea on what their life would be like in the coming years on campus, the opportunities that would be available to them to showcase their talents and the different activities of the department as well.
The event was chaired by Prof. Leo Noronha, Principal, St. Philomena College Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Chairperson of P.G Studies was present as chief guest and Mr. Prasanna Kumar, Co-ordinator of MSW Department was also present on the stage.
Prof. Leo Noronha, Principal of St. Philomena College in his presidential remarks said India is in need of professional social workers since the country is facing numerous social problems. Thus he advised the students to make use of the opportunities to a greater extent so as to become competent and valuable assets to society.
Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Chairperson of P.G Studies opined in his address that apart from the academic achievements the students need to learn the skill of managing the crisis which they come across in their daily life and in fact that is the goal of true education. Further he insisted the students to utilise the facilities available on the campus in order to equip themselves with the requirement of the current challenging world especially the good communication skill.
Mr. Prasanna Kumar, Co-ordinator of MSW Department in his address expressed his best wishes to all the newcomers and encouraged them to polish up and enhance appropriate attitude, approach and academic excellence.
The celebration commenced sharp at 10.30 am with the opening prayer by Ms. Geethapriya K, Ms. Shwetha K and Ms. Shruthi M followed by the welcome address by Ms. Geethapriya K. Ms. Lenet D’Souza proposed vote of thanks at the end of formal session. Ms. Arpitha. S emceed the programme.
Soon after the formal programme various games and competitions were organized for the juniors. The event was sponsored by second year MSW students. Staff members were present on the occasion and all fresher’s including the seniors rocked the show in full swing and enjoyed the celebration.
