Social work being practice-based profession field work training to students is integral part of the course in order to make them learn and practice those professional social work skills in the field, which are taught in classrooms. Practical training enhances professional skills to make correct analysis of the problem, selection of appropriate means of solutions towards the problem. An appropriate fieldwork orientation to budding professionals in the initial phase of MSW course is indispensable activity.
Hence, an orientation session on ‘Field Work Practicum’ was arranged for the newly joined students at the P.G. Department of Social Work on 30th August, 2014. The director of Karnataka Integrated Development Society (KIDS), Puttur Diocese Rev. Fr. John Kunnatheth and Programme Officer of KIDS Ms. Shibi participated as resource persons on the occasion.
In order to introduce social work students the ways and means of designing the pro people programmes at voluntary organisations Ms. Shibi, Programme Officer, KIDS, Puttur unfolded the session by opening up the presentations on the various initiatives, intervention activities in which KIDS organisation is involved with.
Fr. John, the director of KIDS, Puttur specified on the procedure to go into the field work, tactics to build rapport with rural people and plan as well as implement projects ensuring people’s participation in it for their own well being. He also informed students on basic qualities of social workers along with the ethics, values and guiding principles of social work profession.
The session was over and done with beneficial interaction among professionals and beginners. P.G. Department of Social Work had organised this event. Co-ordinator of the Department Mr. Prasanna Kumar welcomed all and on the conclusion proposed vote of thanks.
