An orientation programme for the second and third year undergraduate students was held on 15th June, 2015 and for the newly admitted first year undergraduate students on 16th June, 2015 at St Philomena College Puttur.
The programme was inaugurated by the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.
The Principal of the College, Prof. Leo Noronha welcomed the students and briefed them about rules and regulations. He said, “Healthy education is the need of the hour. Education empowers. Students who have joined this college are the fortunate ones to have received this coveted gift of education. Therefore make your life a useful one and contribute for the betterment of the society.” On the academic year 2015-16, he called upon the students to resolve to be good students. He also encouraged the students to participate in all the co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
The Campus Director, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro while delivering the speech on the occasion said, “Students come from different families and different background but in the college they are all part of one family-‘ Philo family’. He quoted Ratan Tata “None can destroy iron but its own rust can”, much in the same way your success or failure will depend on yourselves.” He delightfully louded the achievements of the academic year 2014-15.
The Correspondent of the college, Rev. Fr Alfred J.Pinto in his brief address said, “ A good individual leads to a good family, which leads to a good community and this further leads to a good society. College is a place where the character formation of an individual takes place. Therefore each one of them should take care to establish a good foundation for the future.” He blessed the staff and the students to have a fruitful and a wonderful year.
As a symbolic gesture the freshers were welcomed through a bouquet and the highest marks scorers were greeted.
Mrs. Bharathi S Rai, Student Welfare Officer was also present.
Ms. Kritika and Keerthi sang the prayer song. Prof. Vishnu Bhat, Vice Principal proposed the vote of thanks. Prof. Ganesh Bhat, Student Welfare Officer welcomed and compered the programme.
