“’Radiation and Environment’ is extremely important and relevant topic. In this world of science and technology there has been enormous and significant progress. The drawback is that the progress interms of production will demand something from the environment. The urge of achieving materialistic progress may lead to the destruction of the environment,” said D. V Gopinath, Former Director, HSE&B Group, BARC, Mumbai in his key note address. He was addressing a gathering during the National Seminar on ‘Radiation and Environment ‘organized by the department of Physics, St Philomena College, Puttur on 5th and 6th February, 2015 at Silver Jubilee Hall, St Philomena College, Puttur.
He further opined that the progress and environment should hand in hand and it should not be at the cost of losing our environment. He also said, “Radiation and Environment is very much discussed topic but least is understood about it. People have a wrong notion that atomic energy that has brought radiation in the environment and any amount of radiation is harmful to the environment. But the fact is that we are surrounded by the radioactive elements, even the food we consume has radioactive elements in it and it is harmful only if it exceeds certain limit. It is need of the hour to create awareness and it should begin from the academic community as they are the windows of knowledge for the society.”

An ability to communicate properly makes a perfect person. The talk of a person can make or mar the situation. Much in the same way radiation can create and destroy the society.”
