M.Sc. Physics: Report on Guest Talk

Guest-Talk-Msc-PhyOn 13th October 2013, Prof. J S Bhat, Department of Physics, Karnataka University, Dharwad visited PG Department of Physics, St Philomena college to deliver the guest lecture on the topic “AN OVERVIEW OF ELECTROMAGNETIC THEORY”. The programme was started with the prayer lead by first year M.Sc. students. Dr A.P Radhakrishna, HOD of Physics introduced the guest to the gathering.

Former HOD of Physics Prof. Suresh Rao of St Philomena College, Coordinator of the Physics Department Dr Deepak D’silva and all the faculty members were present during the occasion. The first and second year students have actively participated in the programme.

Prof. J. S. Bhat during his talk covered the majority aspects of basics related to Electromagnetic Theory and its applications. He also stressed the importance of Maxwell’s equations and explained its role in everyday applications. He encouraged the students to examine all the electrical gadgets in depth to understand how the Electromagnetic Theory works in it.

At the end Dr A P Radhakrishna recollected that, year 2005 was celebrated as International Physics Year. An international survey was conducted through internet to know which is the most revolutionized theory or equations in Physics. The Maxwell’s electromagnetic equations were projected to be the most important equations by the readers, which revolutionized the physics field.

Divya Jyothi Rai welcomed all and Smrithi proposed the vote of thanks. Ashwini of second M.Sc. compered the programme.
