M.Sc. Physics: Inter Collegiate Physics Fest: Phoenix-2K19

St Philomena College, PG Department of Physics had organized an Inter-Collegiate Physics Fest – ‘Phoenix-2K19’ on 13th February 2019.  Very Rev Fr Alfred J Pinto, Correspondent, St Philomena College was the president of the function. Prof Leo Noronha, Principal, St. Philomena College, Puttur was the chief guest of the function. Rev. Dr. Antony Prakash Monteiro, Chairman, Centre for P.G. Studies and Research of St Philomena College and Dr A. P. Radhakrishna, H.O.D. of Physics was the guest of honor. Dr E. Deepak D’Silva, Coordinator of P.G. Physics and student Coordinator escorted the dignitaries on to the dais. The inaugural programme began with invoking God’s blessing by Ms Pramitha A and group. The president inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp and also inaugurated the events by the innovative way.

The president of the programme in his address said, “In spite of having good education, intelligence, discipline, sincerity etc, it is also important that man should be wise in managing personal as well professional responsibilities”

The chief guest in his address said, “Keeping aside all differences as we move forward with togetherness, setting a unique goal before us under proper leadership; it is possible to built strong nation”.

Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro said, “Common sense, Hardworking, and Inspiration these are the three qualities, if properly utilized will make man great.”

“Nowadays there is no gender discrimination in pursuing higher education. In recent years women are pursuing higher education and achieving great success in the field of science”, said Dr A P Radhakrishna.

In his address to the students the Coordinator of the Department Dr E Deepak D’Silva said, “Education should make the person more human, the sole purpose of the education is serve the society one way or the other.”

Ms Poojashree V Rai welcomed the gathering and Ms Lekshmipriya proposed the vote of thanks. Master of Ceremony of the programme was Ms Sindhu.

Sixteen teams of various UG and PG Colleges under Mangalore University actively participated in the following events.

  • Ice Breakers
  • Symposium (seminar)
  • Varna (painting)
  • Robot (working models)
  • IQ (quiz)

In the valedictory function Presidential address was delivered by the principal of the college Prof. Leo Norohna. He said, “Usually the science students have special capabilities to excel in any of the challenges which they face.” The chief guest Prof Chandra Shekhara Shetty T, H.O.D. of Physics, P.G. Studies and Research, St Aloysius Collage, Mangalore in his address said, “These days’ students have lots of opportunity to gain knowledge and excel in their field of subject. There are various programmes conducted in every institution to bring out what is best from the students”.

The Guest of Honour Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro said, “Student should try to achieve maximum perfection in every activities or work they do.”

Dr A P Radhakrishna, H.O.D. of Physics department wished all the very best to the participants for their future carrier.

There was a felicitation programme for Ms Poornima S, Ms Prajna N. D. and Ms Vageeshwari M, the alumni of M.Sc. Physics (2016-18 Batch), who had cleared KSET examination conducted during the year 2017. Rev Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro was felicitated in the programme for the award he received by VGST: ‘VGST Award for Research Publications (ARP) 2017-18’ for his outstanding research publications in Theoretical Particle Physics field.  Dr E. Deepak D’Silva, Coordinator of P.G. Physics introduced the achievers to the audience.

Ms Mithuna welcomed the gathering. Ms Vidyasaraswathi proposed vote of thanks. Ms Thushara was the master of ceremony.

In UG section the Championship was bagged by St Agne’s College, Mangalore and Runner Up award was won by the students of Canara College, Mangalore. In PG section the Championship was bagged by Mangalore University, Magalagangotri, Konaje and Runner Up award was won by the students of St Aloysius College, Mangalore.
