International Women’s Day Celebration

International Women's Day- EnglishWomen Empowerment Cell of St Philomena College, Puttur had celebrated International Women’s Day at Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall, St Philomena College.

The Guest of Honour of the function, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro said, “ Men and Women are not opposite but complementary sex. Both father and mother are the important elements of a family. “

He further said, “Iron cannot be destroyed by anybody, it gets destroyed by its own rust. Much in the same way nobody can destroy a women but her own mindset will.” He concluded by saying that a women play an important role in building a family. A healthy women leads to a healthy family.

Prof. Leo Noronha, Principal of the College in his Presidential address said, “International Women’s Day is the dedicated to women recognizing the work, celebrating her triumph and tribulations. Today we should recall all the services and sacrifices that have been done by our mother, wife, sister and daughter and salute them for all that. A society exists because of the two complementary sex called ‘Men’ and ‘Women’.”

The Resource person of the programme Prof. Mukambika, Head of the Department of Kannada, KSS College, Subramanya said, “In 1910 German Socialist Luise Zietz proposed the establishment of an annual ‘International Woman’s Day’. From then on every year March 8th is celebrated as ‘International Woman’s Day’. The subject of empowerment of women is a burning topic. Inequalities between men and women and discrimination against women have been one of the major issues in the society. There are certain instances were women are treated like a sex object and are subjected to severe sort of injustice. The present times, women quest for equality with men in matters of education, employment, politics, etc. This quest has given birth to the formation of many Women’s Associations and launching of movements.”

Inorder to celebrate the womanhood various cultural items were also organized.

The convenors of the Women Empowerment Cell Prof. Venkateshwari, Ms. Harshitha and Mrs. Suma were also present.

Ms. Pradershini, lll B.A welcomed the gathering. Ms. Radhika, Student Co-ordinator of Women Empowerment cell proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Ms. Sachu Sibby of lll BBM was the Master of Ceremony.
