Inauguration of Yakshakala Kendra

YAKSHAKALAThe Yakshakala Kendra, Centre for study for Cultural Arts of St.Philomena College puittur was inaugurated on September 4th, 2014 at Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall, Mangalore.

The inaugurator Campus Director and Chairman of P.G Studies & Research Centre said, “Yakshagana is a vital cultural heritage. Therefore we have to protect and support the art to grow further.”

The Guest of Honour, Mr. Bottigere Purushotham Poonja while addressing the gathering said, “There is research going on in Yakshagana and other related folk arts. It will not take too long to be focused on the centre stage. There are different types of cultural art depending on the region and language and each art has its own uniqueness.”

Prof. Leo Norohna, Principal in his presidential address said, “ It is a welcome initiative taken by our college to support folk art like Yakshagana.” He called upon all the students to make the best use of this.

Rev. Fr. Vijay Lobo, Principal, St. Philomena P.U College, Prof. Dambe Eshwara Shastry H O D of Sanskrit were the Guests of honour.

After the formal function cultural programme was organised which portrayed the different form of cultural art.

The gathering was welcomed by Mr. Prashanth Rai, Convenor of Yakshakala Kendra, Prof. John B. Sequeira, Head of the dept of Sociology proposed the vote of thanks. Rakshith, student from St. Philomena College of P.G studies and Research Centre was the Master of the ceremony.
