P.G. Department of Social Work at St. Philomena College, Puttur had organised Fresher’s Day on 19th August, 2015. The aim of this impressive event was to put the newly joined students at ease and familiarise them to the setting and also to provide each and every new student a clear idea on what their life would be in the coming days on campus, the opportunities that would be available to them to showcase their talents and the different activities of the department as well.
The event was chaired by Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Chairperson of P.G Studies and Mr. Prasanna Kumar, Co-ordinator of MSW Department was also present on the occasion.
In his address, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Chairperson of P.G Studies opined that being social work service oriented course, apart from learning academics, students need to inculcate good attitude, approach and the skills as they relate themselves with the public. Further he advised students to utilise the facilities available on the campus in order to equip themselves with the requirement of the current challenging world especially soft skills such as good communication skill, right aptitude etc.
Mr. Prasanna Kumar, Co-ordinator of MSW Department in his address expressed his best wishes to all the newcomers and encouraged them to polish up and enhance appropriate attitude, approach and academic excellence.
The celebration commenced sharp at 10.30am with the opening prayer by Ms. Shravya, followed by the welcome address by Ms. Sowmya Bhat. Ms. Nasreen I proposed vote of thanks at the end of formal session. Ms. Pramitha emceed the programme.
Soon after the formal session various games and competitions were organized for the beginners. The event was sponsored by II year MSW students. Staff members were present on the occasion.
