Facula – 2014: ‘Learning by Doing’ Exercise

DSC_0173The department of Commerce and Management, St. Philomena College Puttur organised Facula – 2014, a Commerce and Management fest on 2nd September, 2014 at Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall.This mega event aims at discovering the hidden talents of the Commerce and the Management students. This is a nurturing ground for talents and ideas where a blend of academics and cultural event will promote the holistic growth.

The fest started off with the inaugural function by Mr. C.A Jagannath Kamath, Former President, ICAL, Mangalore Branch. The President of the function was Very. Rev Fr Alfred J Pinto, Correspondent,     St.   Philomena College.

Mr. C.A Jaganath Kamath said, “Academics along with personality development programmes will make students excel in their life. The way to success is the 5ds- desire, dream, discipline, determination and divine intervention. “He concluded by saying ‘Success lies in effort not in defeat’.

Very.Rev Fr Alfred J Pinto in his presidential, questioned the students whether they are accountable in their life. He advised the students to have a budget and also advised their family to follow the same.

Prof. Leo Noronha said, “Gone are those days where you can offer whatever you have but today you have to offer whatever the consumer wants. This is the challenge for the management and the commerce students.”

Prof. Maxim Karl, Dean & H.O.D, Department of Commerce and Management welcomed the gathering. Shreenidhi of lll BBM proposed the vote of thanks. Master of the Ceremony was Billal Ibrahim, ll BBM. The student co-ordinators of the fest, Pavan John Mascarenhas, lll B.Com and Raj Gopal, lll BBM were also present.

The competitions were Minerva – Who am I? , an ice- breaking activity where the students introduced themselves. Pegasus – the Best CEO, it immersed the students in three rounds of competition to test their intellectual skills and stress management to discover the best CEO. Fabrizio – Product Launch, provided a platform to experiment and find innovative ways to launch a product. Thesaurus – Treasure Hunt, participants found the way forward with their vision and clues to locate the hidden treasure with the spirit of team work. Zeus- the Corporate Quiz, it was a mindboggling questions and answer round which made the participants rack their brains.

Facula 2014 has been successful in leading to encourage the students from 12 colleges affiliated to Mangalore University to participate in this programme. All the participants participated to the best of their ability and the best ones were awarded with a trophy and attractive cash prizes.

The prize distribution was done in the Valedictory Ceremony by the Chief Guest, Sindhu Rashmi, Alumnus of St. Philomena College and the Principal of the College, Prof. Leo Noronha.

The Chief Guest addressing the participants said,” Winning and losing is a part of the competition, both should be taken in a sports man spirit.”

The winner of Minerva – Who am I? was FMC, Madikeri. The winner of Pegasus – The Best CEO was from SDM College, Ujjire       The winner of Fabrizio – Product Launch was St. Agnes College, Mangalore. The winner of Thesaurus – Treasure Hunt is Canara College Mangalore. The winner of Zeus- the Corporate Quiz was SDM College, Mangalore. The runners up trophy were bagged by St. Agnes College Mangalore. The star of the evening was SDM College, Mangalore who won the overall trophy.

The aim of exploring the hidden potentials of the students was successfully achieved through Facula 2014.
