Awareness Programme on Environment Protection

DSC_5889“Technology and innovation are the cause for the accumulation of dangerous substances in the environment. There are around 10lakhs mobile phones which are discarded everyday in our country which is causing great danger to the environment.” said Mr. Madhu S. Manohar, the Environmental Engineer of Mangalore City Corporation.

He was addressing the gathering during the Environment Protection programme organized by the Suraksha Consumer Forum of St. Philomena College on 26th July, 2014.

He further said, “Everyday an individual uses 135 liters of water out of which 80 liters goes waste. In advanced countries the water is reused for other useful purposes but this is not practiced in our country. Therefore he said there should be a drastic change in the administrative system to improve the situation.”

Rev Dr. Antony Prakash Monteiro, Campus Director and Chairman of P.G Studies was the Chief Guest of the function. While addressing the gathering he said, “There is a need for every individual to be a responsible citizen and participate in protecting the environment.”

Prof. Leo Norohna, Principal of the College presided over the function. Mr. Karunakara, Health Officer of Mangalore City Corporation, Dr. A. P Radhakrishna, Coordinator of IQAC, St. Philomena College were present on this occasion. The prayer was sung by Ms. Chinmayi and Team. The gathering was welcomed by Prof. Dinakara Rao, Director of Suraksha Consumer Forum. Ms. Preethi K. proposed the Vote of Thanks. Ms. Lavita Flavia D’Souza was the Master of Ceremony.
