Empowering Teachers

DSC_3171 - CopyInternal Quality Assessment Cell (IQAC) had organised an Orientation Programme and Worksop on Teaching Techniques for the recently joined lecturers on 25th June, 2014 at Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall, St. Philomena College, Puttur.

The aim behind organising this activity was to empower the teachers in teaching techniques inorder to guide them to provide a high quality education. The resource person for the session was an eminent master trainer in counselling and Pranik Healer,Prof. Vrishabharaj, Rtd HOD, Department of Physics, SVS College, Bantwal.

The session commenced after a formal function. Very. Rev. Fr Alfred Pinto, Correspondent presided over the function. The other dignitaries were Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monterio, Campus Director, Prof. Leo Noronha, Principal of the Degree College, Rev. Fr Vijaya Lobo, Principal of PU College, Prof. A. P Radhakrishna, Co-ordinator of IQAC. The programme was symbolically inaugurated by the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.

The Principal of the degree college, Prof. Leo Noronha while addressing the gathering said, “Teachers are considered as the catalyst in bringing about social change. Therefore they have great responsibilities and challenges involved in the profession. For the teachers who have recently joined this is the first step in this noble mission of moulding the young minds. There is a need for them to equip themselves to provide a quality education.”

Rev. Fr Vijaya Lobo, Principal of PU College said, “A teacher has a major responsibility to perform compared to any other profession. They not only shape the personality of the students but also the destiny of the country.”

Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monterio, Campus Director advised the new teachers to be effective and intelligent in communicating with the students. He also suggested that as a new member of the college they should basically understand the culture and ethos of this college. He concluded by asking the teachers to actively participate and to be an asset to the institution.

Very. Rev. Fr Alfred Pinto, Correspondent in his presidential address said, “As the employee of this great institution we have a great legacy to carry forward.” He further spoke about 3 Ps, it being Prayer, Patience and Positive attitude which are the important key points to improve the internal quality of an individual.

In the one-day workshop the resource person touched on various teaching techniques and provided a holistic approach towards education. It helped the participants to nurture a culture of innovative education that will help them mould the students to be competitive enough to face the challenges.

The Prayer song was sung by Sinchana and her team. Prof. A. P Radhakrishna, Co-ordinator of IQAC welcomed the gathering .Ms. Anjali Rai proposed the vote of thanks. The programme compered by Ms. Disha P.V.
