Electrical Tariffs and Consumer Awareness

ELECTRICAL TARIFFS-ENG NEWS‘Electrical Tariffs and Consumer Awareness’ was the discussion point organized by the Suraksha Consumer Forum of St Philomena College Puttur on 7-2-2015 at Prerana Hall.

Asst Executive Engineer of MECOM Puttur Division Mr. Lohith B.S explained in detail the functioning of MESCOM procedure with regard to costing, billing, redressal etc. He said,” While fixing the unit rate the cost of production, transfer and distribution costs are considered. The government of Karnataka under Bhagya Jyothi or Kutira Jyothi scheme, is giving free electricity to light one bulb in the houses for the poor and concessions are extended to people who use solar energy. While commuting the bill to the consumer the following points are considered – billing period, present and past reading, fixed cost, power factor etc. For redressal of any dispute a redressal Forum is established at Mangalore and cases will be decided within 30 days of the complaint.”

Prof. Leo Noronha, Principal of the college said that it is good that our country is giving utmost importance to the production of electricity.

During the occasion the other officials of the MESCOM were also present. Prof. Dinakara Rao, Director of the Suraksha Consumer Forum welcomed the gathering. Ms. Helma Menezes and team sang the prayer song. Student co-coordinator Ms. Rachita proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Archana was the Master of the Ceremony.
