Certificate Courses Inaugurated

DSC_6075The 21 Certificate Courses offered at St. Philomena College for the first year degree students to enhance the participation of the students in offering better standards was inaugurated on 30th June, 2014 at Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall, St. Philomena College, Puttur.
The Chief Guest of the function was Mr. M.J. Salian, President, Dakshina Kannada District Federation of the Consumer Organisation. The function was presided by the Prof. Leo Norohna, Principal, St. Philomena College. Dr. Prabhahakar Shishila, Former Principal of Nehru Memorial College, Sullia was the inaugurator.Prof. Dinakar Rao,the convenor of the certificate courses and the Associate Professor, Department of Economics was also present on the dais.
The programme was inaugurated by the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.
The convenor welcomed the gathering and also instructed the students regarding the Certificate courses.
Dr. Prabhahakar Shishila in his inaugural address said, “The certificate courses, which is the part of the curriculum will increase the quality of education. It will make up the students well equipped and will provide better opportunities in the competitive world.”
He added, “Knowledge is supreme, there is nothing equal to knowledge. Develop a character with knowledge and humility.” He listed out the five lessons of life to build a good personality, i.e. Forget and forgive; balance of mind; give more, expect less; be hardworking and sincere; develop hobbies.
He concluded by saying, “Improve your quality of education, enhance your knowledge and develop good communication skill.”
Mr. Salian while addressing the gathering said, “ The Certificate Courses along with your other regular subjects is an added advantage. It will not only help you to understand your subject but will also give an insight about the other field. Knowledge is an asset which nobody can take away.” He told the students to develop a rounded personality without any angularity and aberrations.
The Principal in his presidential address said that the certificate courses are conducted with an intention to make students aware of the other branches also. Quoting a Scholar he said, “ ‘ Right things has to be done at right time and at right place.’ As students it is the right time for you to shape your and as lecturers we have the responsibility to channelize your talent and strength in the right manner.”
Dr. Krishnakumar, Department of Chemistry proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Fiona Mascerenas was the Master of the Ceremony.
