‘Get High on Life, Not on Drugs’

Karnataka State Anti Alcohol Council, Bangalore, Department of Information, Mangalore in association with St. Philomena College organized a seminar for the first year degree students on the eve of Anti- Drugs Day on 26th June, 2014 at Silver Jubilee Hall, St. Philomena College, Puttur.

Prof. Leo Norohna, Principal of the Degree College presided over the function. Dr. Nazeer Ahmad was the key note speaker for the day. The other dignitaries were Mrs. Asha Timappa Gowda, President of Zilla Panchayat, Mr. Mohammad Ali, Municipal member and B. A. Khader, Information Officer.

The session commenced after the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.

B.A. Khader welcomed the gathering and delivered the thematic address.

Mrs. Asha Timappa while addressing the gathering said, “In the present generation drug abuse has become very common, one of the reasons behind this is the parental reckless care and love. The other reason being the surrounding and friends.”

 She added, “Youngsters are the assets of this country. Therefore awareness should be created among the youngsters regarding the implications of consumption of drugs and alcohol and these youngsters should share this information among the others. This will help in creating a drug free and a healthy society.”

Municipal member Mohammad Ali called upon the students not to be the victims of temporary pleasures like usage of alcohol and drugs because along with victim his/ her family also suffers.

Dr. Nazeer Ahmad in his key note address, citing an example of a young man who destroyed his life due to consumption of drugs he said, “Youngsters should focus on their career and grow as a good individual without indulging in such nefarious activities.

Prof. Leo Norohna in his Presidential address said, “Youngsters are the future generation of this country and they should not get weak by indulging in such activities, instead they should concentrate in the development of the society.” He also spoke about the Anti drug committee formed in every colleges inorder to prevent the students from indulging in drug or Alcohol consumption.

Mr. Paul Herald Mascarenhas, Lecturer, Department of Social Work proposed the vote of thanks.
