Msgr. Antony Patrao

Msgr Antony Patrao was born into a modest family in Mangalore on 10-12-1901. He had his initial formal education at his home town and higher education at St. Aloysius College, Mangalore. Responding to divine call to serve the people he joined St Joseph’s Seminary, Jeppu, Mangalore. He dedicated himself to serve the religious and spiritual cause of the community on being ordained a priest on 03-12-1927. Providence brought him to Puttur as the Parish Priest of Mei De Deus Church on 08-10-1939. The intensity of his selfless and love filled service endeared him to masses in Puttur and adjoining places. He chose education to serve the society and began founding educational institutions one after the other. Mai De Deus Primary School, St Victor’s Girls High School, St. Philomena Boy’s Highschool, St. Philomena College, St. Victor’s English Medium School and a Hospital named after him are the result of his sweat and toil. Serving the society in a meritorious manner and leaving behind deep footprints, MsgrPatrao left for the Heavenly Abode on 14-05-1975.
